Introduction
Crispy fried mushrooms are a delicious appetizer or snack, offering a perfect balance between a crunchy exterior and a juicy, flavorful interior. Coated in seasoned batter or breadcrumbs, these golden-brown bites pair wonderfully with dipping sauces like ranch or aioli, making them ideal for gatherings or as a tasty treat any time.
Ingredients
Mushrooms (white button or cremini): 8–10 ounces, cleaned and stems trimmed
Batter:
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup cornstarch
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1 cup cold water or beer (for a beer-battered variation)
Coating:
Panko breadcrumbs (optional for extra crispiness)
Seasoning:
Salt and pepper, to taste
Optional: garlic powder, onion powder, or paprika for added flavor
Oil: Vegetable oil for deep frying
Instructions
Prepare the Mushrooms: Clean the mushrooms and remove excess moisture. Trim stems if necessary.
Make the Batter: In a bowl, mix flour, cornstarch, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add water or beer to create a smooth batter.
Coat the Mushrooms: Dip each mushroom into the batter, allowing excess to drip off. For extra crunch, coat the battered mushrooms in panko breadcrumbs.
Heat the Oil: Heat oil in a deep fryer or skillet to 350°F (175°C).
Fry the Mushrooms: Carefully place a few mushrooms at a time in the hot oil, frying until golden brown (about 3–5 minutes). Flip halfway through for even cooking.
Drain and Serve: Remove mushrooms with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels. Sprinkle with salt and additional seasoning if desired.
Serve Hot with your favorite dipping sauce, like ranch or garlic aioli.
