Chocolate “Salami”

While the name may scare a few people off, let me assure you, there’s no meat involved in this recipe! These Chocolate “Salami” are a popular Portuguese and Italian dessert that I absolutely fell in love with while visiting Porto. They’re as rich as can be and a slice or two is all it takes to satisfy your sweet tooth. The best part? The recipe is easy enough for anyone to master! You’ll only need a few ingredients and won’t even have to turn on the oven. Let’s get into it…

Start by crushing two packages of Marias cookies into small bits. If you aren’t familiar with this cookie, it’s similar to the European digestive biscuit and will typically be found near the graham crackers in the grocery store. If you aren’t able to find them, animal crackers, graham crackers, or any subtly sweet cookie will work. Once the cookies are broken into small pieces, get started on melting the chocolate. For ease, this can be done in the microwave. Then, mix the heavy cream and butter into the melted chocolate until it’s silky smooth.

Fold the crushed cookies and nuts into the chocolate until the mixture is well combined. Form three logs (or salami), wrap them up tightly with plastic wrap, and pop them in the fridge for a few hours. For the final touch, roll the salami in powdered sugar. Get ready for everyone to be wowed by how remarkably similar they look to their namesake!
