Water – 1.5 to 2 cups (depending on the desired texture and type of rice used)

Instructions:
The cooking method for white rice can be easily adapted to different cooking equipment.

Here is a step-by-step guide to preparing steamed white rice using three different methods: stovetop, rice cooker, and Instant Pot.

Method 1: Stovetop White Rice
Rinse the rice: Before starting to cook, rinse the rice thoroughly under cold water.

This step is essential to remove excess starch, which will ensure the rice doesn’t become sticky.

Place the rice in a fine-mesh strainer and run cold water over it, gently rubbing the grains with your hands until the water runs clear.

Measure the water: Pour the rinsed rice into a medium saucepan. For every cup of rice, add 1.5 to 2 cups of water (depending on the desired consistency). Add salt and oil/butter if desired.
Bring to a boil: Place the saucepan on the stovetop over medium-high heat. As soon as the water boils, reduce the heat and cover tightly.
Simmer the rice for 18 to 20 minutes, until the water is completely absorbed. Avoid lifting the lid during cooking to prevent steam loss. Let the rice rest: Once the cooking time is up, remove the pan from the heat and let the rice rest, covered, for about 5 to 10 minutes. This will allow it to finish steaming and develop a soft texture.
Fluff with a fork: After the standing time, gently fluff the rice with a fork, separating the grains before serving.
