How to Get Rid of Unpleasant Odors Around the Toilet

Do you ever feel sometimes that no matter how well you clean your toilet there is still a lingering smell that you just can’t figure out where its coming from, and how to get rid of it.

As a mom of three little ones (two of them being boys) this toilet gets used regularly and I generally give it a good wipe down daily, but even after its weekly deep cleaning I still feel like it needs a higher level of freshening up.

I came across this hack to rid toilet odors years ago, and I swear by it. It always does the trick and leaves my bathroom and toilet smelling fresh!

To freshen up your toilet begin by giving it a good deep clean. Wipe the outer surfaces with the cleaner of your choice and make sure to give the toilet bowl a good scrub too.

You are now ready to tackle those stubborn lingering odors. The best thing that I have found for this, is basic shaving cream. You don’t need anything fancy, but you want to make sure its the foaming kind, not the gel. There is some scientific evidence behind why this works, but i wont get into that here. Just rest assured in knowing that this is a hack that actually does work well.

Next you want the spray the shaving foam around the toilet. For our toilet personally, I find that most of the unpleasant smells come from the base of the toilet, so I made sure to fully cover that area.

Let the foam sit and do its thing for about 10 minutes. This is when I usually tackle the rest of the bathroom. As the foam sits, it will expand into any little nooks and crevices eliminating all of those nasty smells.
